Program Description:
In a word, yes, we all have unconscious bias, and there is no way around it. The challenge is how we choose to manage that bias once it is no longer unconscious! When we go into a coaching session, we bring our whole selves to the engagement. It just may be that the smallest percentage of your “whole self” is the training, education, and experience you have as a coach. The foundation on which your work has been built started long before your formal education.
Buried deep inside your “unconscious mind” are memories of where and how you grew up, friends you played with, parents who reared you, teachers who taught you, the media you consumed, and hundreds of other experiences you encountered over your lifespan. Yes, Tickle Me Elmo, Barbie, and Hot Wheels are still looming in your unconscious mind, and you are about to coach an executive struggling with supply chain issues that may impact her promotion to SVP!
Program Outcomes:
Participants will:
- Gain greater insight into what unconscious bias is and what influences it.
- Discover how to become more conscious of your personal bias.
- Learn tips to probe clients to uncover unconscious bias that might be blocking their success.
- Understand how to mitigate bias in your coaching sessions.
