Marion Franklin, MCC is a globally recognized master coach, mentor and teacher. She currently teaches her unique ACSTH program, Laser Coach Your Way to Sustainable Success, emphasizing masterful coaching skills. Marion is the author of the popular book for coaches, The HeART of Laser-Focused Coaching: A Revolutionary Approach to Masterful Coaching that was written for coaches at all experience levels. The book emphasizes getting to the heart of the matter and immediately elevating coaching effectiveness while avoiding common pitfalls. She created and facilitates ongoing weekly group Mentor Practicums, “Coach with Confidence,” offering credential preparation, mentor requirements, CCEUs.
The session will involve listening to and unpacking a laser-focused coaching session by Marion. Each time the recording is stopped throughout the session, you will have a chance to discuss and ask questions. Marion is all about getting to the heart of the matter with efficiency and yet being highly effective to create greater insight. The session will demonstrate creating deeper curiosity about the person vs. their situation thereby creating transformational (vs. transactional) shifts in perspective. Marion typically emphasizes not only the significance and simplicity of the first question after the opening story but also the crucial role of reflection and her ‘lead by following’ technique.

Member Snapshot - Sharon Coleman, PCC


With our Member Snapshot we are excited to help you know more of the ICF North Texas members, and to learn more ways you can connect with people who share your passion for professional coaching. This month, we are very pleased to introduce you to another internal coach who happens to help lead our LINC team of internal coaches.

Meet Coach Sharon Coleman, PCC
Sharon Coleman is the U.S. New Collar Apprentice Manager in Sales for IBM and a professional coach for her organization and beyond. Sharon completed her formal coach training and certification through The Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) and she also holds a PCC credential from ICF. Her professional coaching covers a breath of career, internal/organizational, leadership development, personal/life, and team/group coaching. Sharon has completed various trainings with the ICF Internal Coaches CCoP, Positive Intelligence (PQ) coach training, a breadth of WBECS training, and earned an IBM Career Coaching Badge.



How does your role impact IBM? In addition to coaching clients, Sharon serves as a lead supervisor in IBM’s internal coaching education program. The initiative is called Blue Core Coaching (BCC). She shared, “We focus on creating an experiential journey where we expose IBMers to the ICF Core Competencies. It is a way for them to grow their business coaching skills on the job with real business clients.”

Why Coaching? Sharon explained, “I am a generational bridge builder; I have found there are people that I am drawn to and who are drawn to me. I meet them where they are and we then journey together.” What a beautiful metaphor for our field and the clients we serve—we journey together!

How did your Coaching begin? Sharon said, “In reality, I've been coaching all my life. I was a very curious child and was often asked by my mother to let her ears rest. Throughout my high school, college, and early professional career, I've served in the capacity of providing a listening, empathetic ear. I feel called to serve as a coach. It is integrated into my divine design—I believe it is a God-given strength.”

Initially, Sharon served as a mentor and guide to professional colleagues as well as college students and young people in her church. “I was introduced to coaching as a leadership modality and profession in 2000 by my manager,” Sharon explained. “I realized that there was a name for what I felt came naturally to me. I'd found my people.”

Sharon was fortunate to work for a leader who understood and valued coaching. Her team was successful in earning three ICF Prism awards because of the way they wove coaching into the fabric of their organization in such a dedicated manner. She said, “We leveraged coaching on an individual and group basis. We had initiatives that focused on driving sales business results as well as cultivating the relationships between managers and their direct reports.” Sharon continues to coach internal IBM clients and is particularly drawn to coaching younger professionals.

The last BCC cohort Sharon led was called the Asian Golden Cats. This word cloud represents what the coach trainees wanted to gain from attending the training.

Meaningful client story? Sharon wanted to share this story because it was significant in that she felt so ‘stuck.’ She was reminded that rather than continuing to lean into her frustration, sometimes something simple or completely different can be just the right thing.

“I had a very tough client early in my coaching pursuits. We met consistently, however, I never felt like we'd made a connection. One day, I didn't know what to say or ask. We actually sat in silence for a few minutes. Then, I remembered a question that I would ask when I was in sales. What keeps you up at night? (I don't recommend that question unless there's a point to it, lol.) That opened a way for the client to share a very difficult personal situation they were dealing with that was impacting their professional performance. The dialog that took place allowed them to clear their head and focus on a plan. Our coaching sessions from that point forward were rich and purposeful.”

Coaching recognition: Sharon gladly shared, “I was part of a team that was awarded three global ICF Prism awards. I was in a full-time role to lead the efforts to design, execute and measure our initiatives, so I’m really proud to have been part of what we accomplished.

ICF Experience and Leadership: “It was important to me to meet up with ‘my people,’ so joining ICF North Texas was a no-brainer,” Sharon said. “I've met scores of coaches, received first-class education, and have a sense for really being connected to the profession.”

Sharon feels fortunate to have served on a program committee for one of the international coaching conferences. She has also held board roles for ICF North Texas. “I attended many conferences with the work team I was part of, and it gave us a special time to learn and grow together. During my stints with the ICF North Texas Board, I enjoyed working with the other Board members and relished their mentorship.”

She continued, “As a co-leader of the Internal Coach LINC group, I have a chance to meet monthly with an amazingly creative group of unselfish coaches who share so much. I really enjoy being in a LINC group that allows me to continue to learn and grow alongside other internal coaches,” Sharon explained.

Sharon said, “I credit the author and finisher of my faith (God for me) for the gifts of patience, wisdom, and an empathetic, listening ear. When I found coaching, I not only found a level of peace, I also found purpose.”

ICF Diversity Roundtable: Using DEIB Coaching to Increase Employee Engagement and Performance


The ICF Diversity Roundtable is back. You’re invited to join ICF and Joe Matthews on February 28 at 12 Noon (New York) for a candid conversation about using diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) coaching to increase employee engagement.

Joe is the first-ever diversity officer for Gentex, a leader in the automotive industry. Since 2018, Joe’s efforts have helped Gentex gain recognition as a world-class employer, and he has won numerous awards for his work at the company and in the community. In his current role, Joe is responsible for the continued development and focus of Gentex’s DEI initiatives, serving as a representative in the community and driving meaningful change at Gentex.
