Heralded as a dynamic and inspirational people expert with outstanding business acumen, Tony is a leader who uses inspirational, motivational speaking, and dynamic facilitation to get desired results.
In a word, yes, we all have unconscious bias, and there is no way around it. Buried deep inside your “unconscious mind” are memories of where and how you grew up, friends you played with, parents who reared you, teachers who taught you, the media you consumed, and hundreds of other experiences you encountered over your lifespan. The challenge is how we choose to manage that bias once it is no longer unconscious! When we go into a coaching session, we bring our whole selves to the engagement. It just may be that the smallest percentage of your “whole self” is the training, education, and experience you have as a coach. The foundation on which your work has been built started long before your formal education.

The Impact of DEIJ on My Coaching Practice

Join us following our chapter meeting and program as Tony Gilliard delves into the impact of DEIJ on your coaching practice. You've had a successful coaching practice, and now the conversations are changing. George Floyd; the pandemic; another police shooting of an unarmed Black man; and your client, a Black mother of two teenage boys seeking to become SVP of Procurement in the middle of a supply chain crisis. Buckle up, folks; you've still got to make a living.
Our responsibilities as coaches don't change because the world does. Our approach and understanding of the world's impact on our clients and our practice may shift, but we work in the best interests of our clients to help them gain clarity and focus on achieving their goals. However, the conversations may now be different and even a little uncomfortable. But what makes them uncomfortable? How do you become comfortable with your discomfort?
