UT Southwestern Medical Center to Present at Celebrate Coaching 2023!
September 8, 2023

As we continue to gear up for our 6th annual Celebrate Coaching event on September 8, 2023, we are pleased to announce that following our keynote speaker, Debjani Biswas, CEO and Founder of Coachieve, LLC, we will host a guest panel from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas (UTSW). Academic medicine comes with challenges such as balancing competing professional demands, balancing work and home life, battling burnout, and doing it all for less money than counterparts in private practice. To address that, UTSW has been developing an internal coaching program over the last three years designed as the foundation of a coaching culture.

During this panel discussion, you will hear:
  • The unique challenges in Academic Medicine that led UTSW to choose coaching as the solution
  • The operational details of the UTSW Coach Certificate Program (ICF Level One Accreditation pending)
  • How UTSW supports a distributed model of internal coach support
Event Sponsorships will be available very soon. As we did last year, we are offering a $50 discount for all ICF-North Texas chapters members who would like to sponsor and host guests at a table ($50 discount off $300 Bronze Sponsorship). In addition, if you or someone you know would like to donate an item for our guest swag bag, please contact Sandi Knight at specialevents@icf-nt.com.

Mark your calendar for September 8. This is a must attend event!

Member Snapshot - Mayme Doumbia, PCC

While attending meetings is always a wonderful way to network with other coaches, we also give you a glimpse of chapter members through our monthly Member Snapshot. This month we are very pleased to feature Mayme Doumbia, PCC!

Meet Mayme.
Mayme Doumbia is a PCC and EMCC-ITCA and she is known for her work with C-IQ for Executive Coaches, Positive Intelligence, Conscious Business Coaching, Organizational Coaching, and DEI in the Workplace.

Mayme can be found at Xcelsior Coaching and Consulting, LLC, where she provides corporate, executive, internal/organizational, leadership development, small business/entrepreneur, and team/group coaching for a variety of clients.

Why coaching? And more about how it is in Mayme’s world. “I became a coach after observing leaders over the years, working in healthcare, corporate, non-profits, and the U.S. Army,” said Mayme Doumbia. Mayme came to realize that she wanted to assist leaders by challenging the conventional assumptions about leadership. She explained, “I help them redefine leadership by encouraging them to be authentic and true to themselves, rather than imitating others.”

Mayme works with leaders who want to increase their effectiveness or to create a new path. As someone who has overcome numerous obstacles herself, Mayme has been drawn to others who are striving to do the same. “I introduce leaders to ‘unleash the trail blazer’ within them. And once that leader is set in motion, they must decide the direction they will take—forward, sideways, or into stagnation. I help them to propel forward, despite the immense challenges they may be facing.”

Why an organizational approach? Mayme explained that, while coaching an individual can be beneficial, creating a healthy space within a team and organization is crucial. It is comparable to curing an illness, and then placing the person back into a community still plagued by infections. She said, “While not all organizations are infected, I view problems and issues as contagious in nature. If the person being coached returns to an environment that is not conducive to their wellbeing, they may choose to leave or revert to established habits and norms.” Mayme makes it her goal to help a team become a catalyst for change, removing barriers and fostering positive transformations. “I strive to create psychologically safe environments, where trust, belonging, and a healthy culture thrive, resulting in meaningful and sustainable improvements.”

There was this one client… Mayme shared a time that a client who came to her as a new director (an emerging team leader) really took off with professional coaching. “Throughout our coaching relationship, this client underwent significant growth in his leadership abilities and gained confidence not only in his role as a leader, but also in his professional endeavors. He earned two promotions while we worked together and has earned a C-suite position within a Fortune 50 company, and is still growing.” Mayme shared, “It was incredibly rewarding to witness his career progress so rapidly.” What stands out in this client’s story is how consistently he redefined his future aspirations—and the steps to make them happen—during coaching sessions. “His unwavering commitment and determination made it a genuine honor to have been a part of his transformative journey, and I’m thrilled he continues to evolve and achieve even greater heights.”

ICF chapter involvement is key. Mayme is involved with:
   •    DEIB Committee
   •    PCC LINC
   •    Business Building LINC

Mayme said, “As a coach and entrepreneur, one of the crucial aspects of our work is to continuously expand our knowledge and hone our coaching skills. It is essential to keep learning and continue growing competency to effectively support and assist the clients entrusted to our care. I find the LINC groups enjoyable because they provide an opportunity to delve deeper into specific topics like these.”

Mayme is also Founder of Coaches of Color and Culture. Coaches of Color and Culture (CCC) is a non-profit organization that is focused on empowering coaches of color and cultures of diverse cultural backgrounds to achieve their full potential. Mayme explained that this group emerged as a unified collective with a simple yet powerful objective: to create a sanctuary where coaches can find solace and rejuvenation beyond the confines of their daily routines. “In the midst of life's challenges, coaches often lack dedicated spaces to engage in meaningful discussions and seek support for their personal journeys. This provides a psychologically safe space where coaches can heal, grow, and thrive together,” Mayme said. “We recognized the pressing need for coaches to have an outlet for deep conversations that foster personal growth and healing, and CCC quickly evolved into a vibrant community of mutual support and empowerment.”

I find great joy in embarking on daring adventures, especially while traveling. As a leader and coach, I consistently instill the values of bravery, audacity, and conquering fears in my clients. To truly inspire and motivate them, I try to make a conscious effort to exemplify these principles in all aspects of my personal and professional life.
