Celebrate Coaching 2023

Our Celebrate Coaching 2023 event was a huge success! For those of you who attended, we’re sure you will agree that both Debjani Biswas and Mike Caracalas and the UTSW team were amazing. Both were so engaging and informative. Many people said, “I didn’t want it to end!” Debjani’s information on inclusion was spot on and riveting. She requested that we not record the session to be sure people felt comfortable to be authentic and honest about opinions, thoughts, and feelings on this topic, so you will not see a recording on this one. There were many great questions that prompted deep and honest discussions, so thank you to everyone who participated.

Following our keynote, we hosted a team from UT Southwestern Medical Center to share how far they have come with implementing a Coaching Culture. Hundreds of professionals have benefitted from their program to date, and they are just getting started. This part of the program was recorded, so watch for the email with the link to watch it again.

Our great thanks go to the Special Events Committee once again for their hard work and dedication to making this another great Celebrate Coaching event. We could not have done this without them. Thank you to Teresa Dabney, Ken Jenkins, Schartryce Mason, Laura Myers, Patty Vaccaro, and all the others who showed up on event day to be sure we were ready to open right on time. A special thank you to Ryan Brown, our Av expert, who always handles our events with extreme professionalism.

Save the Date for Celebrate Coaching 2024 on October 11, 2024! After much consideration, we made the decision to move Celebrate Coaching into October, as it was in 2022. With back-to-school events and last-minute vacations around Labor Day, we felt an October event would provide more people the opportunity to attend. We look forward to seeing you in October 2024 for our 7th annual flagship event!

Member Snapshot - Nick Dillon

Our board and other members of ICF-North Texas chapter are a very active, highly engaged, and progressive group of professional coaches, and we love to help you know your fellow members a bit better with a monthly Member Snapshot. These ongoing glimpses can help you to know who to reach out to and to better understand the resources we have available through our chapter. We hope it may also inspire you to join a LINC group or volunteer, the ways that members consistently tell us help them to get the most value from their membership. This month, we are pleased to highlight another wonderful ICF-North Texas member, Nick Dillon, who will also be part of a panel discussion at our October event.

Tell us about your coaching business. I am the CEO of Believe Wellness Center PLLC. I serve those who are ready for more with Executive, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership Development, Multicultural, Life, Entrepreneur, and Team coaching, helping them to reach more of their potential. I bring 20 plus years of leadership and organizational development to my clients which includes leadership coaching as well as DEI training and development.

What coaching training have you experienced and who do you serve? I have completed Life Coach Training at the Life Coaching Institute, as well as a Recovery Coaching Certification and Mindset Dimensions Assessment Practitioner with Mindset Dimensions. I am also a licensed therapist specializing in addiction and recovery work.
Why Coaching? Coaching has been a natural progression for me in my years of leadership and organizational development. As an individual committed to lifelong learning, I love adding positive value to people. The helping profession, including professional coaching, speaking, training, counseling, and mentoring, all help individuals to be great leaders and productive individuals in our society.

As a survivor of bullying from my teen years, it is important to me to help others build a positive self-image so that they can be the highest expression of themselves without judgement. As a teen, I was planning my suicide because I believed the names the bullies called me, and I believed I was not good enough. Thankfully, I was able to rest my thoughts and become a living, walking testimony of the power of shifting your mindset to achieve something greater. Seeing how it has impacted my own life lets me know and empowers me to support others to be the best that they can be. This work as a coach is right and necessary for such a time as this when stress, mental health issues, loneliness and other negative forces are all on the rise and can diminish our abilities as well as the joy we are meant to have in our lives.

Why this type of coaching? I love being an accountability partner and celebrating success with my clients. Helping others to understand that life and our ability to be successful is about our belief and mindset is a big part of my holistic approach to wellness and wellbeing. Every day of our life is about the energy we bring from our thoughts and beliefs—both consciously and unconsciously. As a mindset coach (often called "The Believe Coach"), I help individuals get their beliefs in alignment with their purpose using several different modalities.

Favorite coaching story? I was working with a client who saw himself as little more than an Uber driver with minimal ambition. He was willing to invest in himself for 90 days when we started and after several weekly sessions and lots of self-awareness, self-discovery, and positive self-talk, we expanded the coaching to over a year. In that time, he went back to school and completed his degree, became a published author, got married, purchased a home, and is currently working for a Major fortune 500 Corporation. This person was able to see the power of shifting his mindset, trusting the process, and realizing the abilities he had within as an effort to see it manifest outwardly. I am one of his biggest fans, and he continues to demonstrate the power of professional coaching by changing his beliefs about who he is and who he can become.

Awards: I received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award this year in March 2023 These are given to individuals who are dedicated and work hard to serve people in their community. I was nominated and along with a gold medal at an award ceremony, I received a certificate and personal letter from President Biden.

Why are you a member of ICF-North Texas? I chose to be a member of ICF-North Texas because it is a great way to stay connected with the coaching industry and to learn from colleagues right here in the area. In addition, I feel like my support, input, and ideas are encouraged and valued.

It has been especially gratifying to volunteer on the ICF professional development committee as well as the DEI committee. I’m very pleased to be a part of the LINC group that is helping me reach my next level, a PCC accreditation, and I appreciate the opportunity to participate in the Leadership Retreat this year. It was a truly great and engaging experience to see and hear the vision of ICF NT!

What else can you share about yourself? I am a husband to my lovely wife Beverly of 33 years, father of 3 adult children, and grandfather of 4. They are “my WHY” and it works out very well that they are also some of my biggest fans and supporters.
