Dr. Bonita Thompson, Ed.D, MBA, is New York Times Bestselling Coauthor of Admired: 21 Ways to Double Your Value. Currently, she serves as a faculty in Organizational Performance & Leadership at Vanderbilt University and is a celebrated lecturer at prestigious institutions worldwide, including Harvard's Institute of Coaching, John F. Kennedy University, and at forums like The Conference Board and the World Economic Forum. Her upcoming book, entitled Nobody Does It Alone: The Science of Collaborative Influence, is based on her development of the world’s first ‘Collaborative Leadership’ construct in the social sciences. Dr. Thompson holds an Ed.D from University of Pennsylvania's Chief Learning Officer doctoral program; an MBA in information systems from University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in industrial psychology from San Jose State University.

Lisa Yarbough, PCC, Elected ICF-North Texas Director of Communications

The ICF-North Texas Board of Directors has elected Lisa Yarbough, PCC, to serve as Director of Communications for the chapter’s 2024 Board. In her new role, Lisa will provide strategic communications support for the chapter’s three-year strategic plan. She will lead the Communications Committee, which produces our monthly newsletter and other member communications as well as content for ICF-NT.com. Lisa previously served on the chapter’s 2018 Board as Director of Marketing.

Lisa is a PCC certified coach, writer, and founder of Epiphany Coaching, LLC. Prior to coaching, Lisa had an extensive marketing career leading marketing strategies and launching communications technology products and services for Fortune 500 companies. She brings over 20 years of this business experience along with her coaching expertise to guide her clients to their desired transformations. Lisa holds a Master of Science in Management Degree with a concentration in Organizational Behavior and Executive Coaching from the University of Texas at Dallas. She earned a Bachelor’s in Business from Loyola University of Chicago, and a Graduate Certificate in Executive and Professional Coaching from the University of Texas, Dallas.

Member Snapshot - Jane Koenecke

Jane Koenecke has been a volunteer working on our newsletter Member Snapshot segment for a while now, and this month, we are pleased to introduce her to you! The Member Snapshot is an ongoing glimpse of your fellow members, giving you a great network of resources available to you and reminding you why it is so valuable to belong to ICF-North Texas.

Why coaching? After thoroughly enjoying decades in the marketing and communications field and leadership roles, I hit a point when I knew it was time to make a move but felt unsure about what I was moving to. I already had some good experiences working with professional coaches, so I hired a coach to help me gain perspective and momentum into what could be next.

In that coaching experience I came to realize how guiding people to get what they truly want in life was an extremely valuable skill—and I wanted to have it! I decided to pursue coaching myself, thinking that no matter what else I do, this leadership skill would matter.

Coaching training: I received my professional coach training through Co-active Training and went on to attain my ACC with International Coaching Federation soon after that. I remain in touch with the international friends I made along the way, and am grateful for the ongoing opportunities I have through ICF where I can be with local coaches in person or virtually most anytime. It is truly the way to stay on the cutting edge of coaching and it provides what we need to serve our clients with excellence and most up-to-date approaches.

Beyond coaching: Coaching is my ‘side hustle’ and a wonderful way to stay connected with outstanding leaders in various industries. In addition to doing some coaching, I partner with other coaches to manage 360-degree interviews and reports for their clients. The people I work with are often professionals and leaders in global transportation and healthcare organizations, and I enjoy enhancing their insights and self-awareness.

A few years ago, I was introduced to an interesting concept and an offer to establish and develop a new public charity as its Executive Director. In 2020, The HALO Initiative for Catholic Education was born to support Catholic schools throughout nine counties in and around Dallas. The organization is unique in the nation because it is an independent nonprofit that works closely and collaboratively with the Catholic Schools Office. For those of you who are not familiar with Catholic education, it is known to give students an excellent learning environment as well as leadership skills and virtues to equip them to solve problems we cannot even imagine today. Regardless of faith, ability to pay, or anything else, the Catholic schools work to serve the community by giving children lifelong advantages and opportunities. Many of these schools have room for more students so I and my team are working to help more students attend while they also create pilot programs to test new approaches to school leaders’ biggest challenges.

A favorite coaching story: A client I recently worked with had an excellent reputation in Europe and Asia for outstanding leadership, yet had come to the U.S. and was viewed as less effective and in fact, as a distraction. Through coaching, this person learned to approach his leadership in a culturally appropriate manner and to lean on the team in new ways, opening opportunities for them. Doing this work together created a bond and an ability to reach the potential they had all along. Incredible to witness all that can open up with coaching!

Why are you a member of ICF-North Texas? I chose to be a member of ICF-North Texas because it is a great way to stay connected with the direction of the coaching industry and to easily keep up with the learning required to serve clients in an excellent manner. And to be able to hang out with coaches who understand so many dynamics of improving ourselves and our leadership is extremely valuable for me personally.

And, just as it has in other parts of my life, volunteering has been very gratifying with ICF-North Texas. I have served as the Communications Director of ICF-North Texas Board for a couple of years and as a volunteer for the communications team for a couple of years.

I recommend other members volunteer or join a LINC group AND to attend meetings in person at least each quarter. We have a wealth of information and opportunities and resources in North Texas, and connecting frequently is the way to get the most out of your membership.

What else can you share about you? Pictured here are (the light of my life for more than 35 years) Mike, along with our daughter Maggie and son-in-law Michael, and our son Dave, who bring me great joy, year after year. We were enjoying a trip in Scotland.

You can take the girl out of Wisconsin, but you can’t take the Wisconsin out of the girl. Here I am enjoying kayaking on one of many thousands of beautiful lakes in my home state.
