HomeOct. 12 - Celebrate 2018

ABOUT CELEBRATION 2018

On October 12, 2018, ICF North Texas hosted its first-ever Celebrate event. The theme was Explore the Magic of Coaching. Celebrate is an event designed to be held every year but with a specific theme or focus area to be chosen by the planning committee and the ICF NT board of directors. For 2018, the committee decided to focus on the transformation that happens in coaching and also to make the celebration about both the client and the coach.  From there, the planning started ranging from securing a speaker, inviting sponsors and creating a memorable experience for all attendees.

As the 98 members, guests and sponsors in attendance entered Celebrate 2018, they were greeted by chapter volunteers and invited to embark on a journey. Event program and gift bags were inspired by travel, adventure and the journey that we’re all on as coaches, clients and well, as human beings.

Catherine Oleksiw, ICF North Texas President welcomed everyone and introduced Sara Smith, ICF North Texas member who is also on the ICF Global Board of Directors. Sara then introduced Matt Varney, ICF Strategic Director. It was a pleasure to hear from both Matt and Sara who gave inspiring words about the profession and practice of coaching and the importance of coaches and their clients in our world today.

Dr. Terry Hildebrandt was our guide on an appreciative inquiry type journey that engaged clients and coaches in an exploration of several topics including:

  • What do you as a coach or client love about coaching?
  • Who do I bring to my clients or what value does my coach bring to me?
  • What do I love about my clients and my coaching practice?

Further discussion at the tables found coaches examining “self as instrument” while clients reflected on how their own readiness contributes to the success of the coaching.

The energy level was high in the room and the conversation was lively.  Perhaps the best indication of the experience comes from the clients, coaches and sponsors themselves.

I was surprised to learn that the career challenges which led me to seek the help of a coach were universal challenges experienced by my table mates. I was also encouraged to see that those who had received coaching had persevered through the challenges while those who had not signed up with our coach were still struggling.  This event confirmed that my investment in coaching had in fact delivered a positive ROI.

Marla Reeder, client guest

I’m pleased to have been a part of this inaugural event. As a “matchmaker” of my clients’ needs to the best expertise available, it was great to be surrounded by all these passionate professionals. Their enthusiasm and genuine desire to shepherd those who need guidance was completely palpable in the room.

Sal Vergara, hrQ, sponsor

I had not attended an ICF North Texas event in several months, and I was reminded of how energizing it is to be in the same spaces with so many great minds. The exercises Terry Hildebrandt challenged us with really helped illuminate the diversity of thought that ultimately ties us all together. I have learned through this organization that coaches are a generous group of people committed to furthering the movement together. I left inspired and with a full heart.

Beth McCormack, ICF North Texas member

Not knowing what to expect from an event that was promoted as 'not the typical monthly luncheon meeting', I was pleasantly surprised with the high energy level as I entered the room. I reconnected with familiar faces and enjoyed meeting new people, too. I'm glad I decided to be part of this inaugural event.

Nicole DiRocco, ICF North Texas member

I'm glad I attended the event because I was seated with some wonderful coaches that I got a chance to meet for the first time or know better. It was a great experience talking about coaching with my tablemates because I saw things from a fresh or different perspective.

Traci Byerly, ICF North Texas member and Celebrate 2018 volunteer

Something I didn't expect from Celebrate 2018 was to hear from the client’s perspective. The table discussions brought together two different perspectives of the same situation immediately; it was fun to see the lightbulbs go on in the moment.

Kathleen Klaviter, ICF North Texas Board Member, Director of Alliances

I am glad that I attended the Celebrate Coaching event because the energy in the room for our profession was contagious! So many good small group conversations, many proud moments shared and good-natured competition between the tables. It made me proud to be a coach.

Kristin Robertson, ICF North Texas Board Member, Director of Programs
