ABOUT CELEBRATION 2018
On October 12, 2018, ICF North Texas hosted its first-ever Celebrate event. The theme was Explore the Magic of Coaching. Celebrate is an event designed to be held every year but with a specific theme or focus area to be chosen by the planning committee and the ICF NT board of directors. For 2018, the committee decided to focus on the transformation that happens in coaching and also to make the celebration about both the client and the coach. From there, the planning started ranging from securing a speaker, inviting sponsors and creating a memorable experience for all attendees.
As the 98 members, guests and sponsors in attendance entered Celebrate 2018, they were greeted by chapter volunteers and invited to embark on a journey. Event program and gift bags were inspired by travel, adventure and the journey that we’re all on as coaches, clients and well, as human beings.
Catherine Oleksiw, ICF North Texas President welcomed everyone and introduced Sara Smith, ICF North Texas member who is also on the ICF Global Board of Directors. Sara then introduced Matt Varney, ICF Strategic Director. It was a pleasure to hear from both Matt and Sara who gave inspiring words about the profession and practice of coaching and the importance of coaches and their clients in our world today.
Dr. Terry Hildebrandt was our guide on an appreciative inquiry type journey that engaged clients and coaches in an exploration of several topics including:
- What do you as a coach or client love about coaching?
- Who do I bring to my clients or what value does my coach bring to me?
- What do I love about my clients and my coaching practice?
Further discussion at the tables found coaches examining “self as instrument” while clients reflected on how their own readiness contributes to the success of the coaching.
The energy level was high in the room and the conversation was lively. Perhaps the best indication of the experience comes from the clients, coaches and sponsors themselves.
