Navigating our Work (and Life!) Beyond our Biases

By Pamela Teagarden, MAPP

Our July 13 luncheon program features, Pamela Teagarden, MAPP, a certified coach, published author, keynote speaker, and a widely read blogger. Starting her career as a banker, with the addition of post-graduate studies in corporate behaviors and positive psychology, Pamela developed a ROI for people practices. Her research at the University of Pennsylvania on Authentic Leadership found new measures to recognize and effectively manage personal biases in performance—which serve as the foundation for individuals and organizations to embrace ‘Inclusive Diversity’ in the context of leading diverse teams to better business performance.

As a native Texan who has lived in Nizhnevartovsk, Moscow, London, Beijing and New York, Pamela has a global perspective on HR issues. Her life abroad has deepened her understanding of how to effectively bridge the divide between national and organizational cultures, for individuals and for organizations.

Pamela’s include: Microsoft, PWC, Yum Restaurants Int’l, Royal Bank of Scotland, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, Unilever, Federal Occupational Health Agency, Kaiser Permanente, among others. She also works across small-to-medium companies, equity funders, entrepreneurs and individuals.

Pamela is a member of the Wall Street Journal Task Force on Women in the Economy, a member of the UN community on Innovation and Women’s Entrepreneurship, a TEDx speaker, an Advisory Committee Member to EarthXFilms, and a member of the Global Summit on Women.

Program Description:

#MeToo … Black Lives Matter … LGBTQ Pride ... Muslim Bans ... Brexit ... Facebook Politics…
How can we move beyond the biases that are breaking us down—to build a better world (or at least a better business)? What role can coaches play to enable people to feel connected in such a divided world?

Program Outcomes:

Whether you’re negotiating a business deal or sharing at a family meal, your emotions are likely running higher than ever. Over lunch, Pam will:

Broaden our definition of what bias is and how it affects us
Explain how our emotional state plays into the impact that bias has on our relationships
Show us one simple technique that can move us beyond our biases—in even the most complex relationships (at work and at home)
